VooDoo Add Receiver Syvelle Newton

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans VooDoo were assigned wide receiver Syvelle Newton, announced the front office on Thursday afternoon.

Newton (6’0” 210 lb. South Carolina) is in his seventh season of professional football. This season, he has played for the Georgia Force and Kansas City Command.

Newton was known for his ability to play multiple positions at South Carolina, starting at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and safety. He is one of only four players in college football history with over 600 yards passing, rushing, and receiving for his career.

Newton went undrafted in 2007. He signed a two-year deal with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League, but left the team after being moved from quarterback to wide receiver. He joined the Chicago Rush in 2010 and caught 41 passes for 566 yards and 12 touchdowns playing in only five games. He was assigned to the Philadelphia Soul during the 2011 season.
